After delivery of a removable partial denture

Detailed recommendations for patients after receiving a removable partial denture.
Patient guide
These are general recommendations after delivery of a removable partial denture. Individual instructions from your doctor always take priority.

Key points

  • In the first days, discomfort, increased salivation, and speech changes are possible.
  • Wear the denture according to your doctor’s instructions and do not skip follow-up visits.
  • Remove the denture at night unless your doctor advises otherwise.
  • Clean the denture and your natural teeth after every meal.
  • Do not attempt to adjust, grind, or modify the denture yourself.
  • If painful sore spots or looseness occur, contact your doctor.

Adaptation plan

First 24 hours

  • Wear the denture for the time recommended by your doctor.
  • Avoid very hard foods.
  • Unusual sensations and mild discomfort are normal.

Days 2–7

  • Speech and chewing gradually improve.
  • Choose soft foods; cut firmer foods into small pieces.
  • If the denture rubs or causes pain, schedule an adjustment.

Weeks 2–4

  • Adaptation continues and discomfort decreases.
  • You can gradually expand your diet.
  • Maintain good oral hygiene and attend scheduled check-ups.
Planned adjustments are a normal part of denture adaptation and are necessary for proper fit.
